Anita Coffee Thomas, first-time author, announces the release of her debut novel, Blood Will Tell, a gripping murder mystery that doubles as a heartfelt love letter to newspapers. Set in 1971, the story follows aspiring reporter Amanda Blackstone, whose first assignment as the Coastal Herald’s society columnist leads her into a web of corporate embezzlement, blackmail, and a long-buried family secret that culminates in murder.

Amanda’s investigative journey is guided by seasoned reporter Patrick Maguire, who mentors her while keeping her impulsive instincts in check. Together, they navigate the ethical and physical dangers of reporting during a turbulent decade, discovering not only evidence of criminal activity but also the complexities of human relationships and love.

“Newspapers and a free press are vital to the health of a community,” Thomas explains. “Even in the digital age, they keep people connected, hold the powerful accountable, and reflect the heart and soul of their readers.”

Raised in northeast Florida and a graduate of Florida State University, Thomas moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, in 2000, where she began her career in publishing as a Publisher’s Assistant for the local daily newspaper, the StarNews. Following her retirement in 2014, Thomas pursued her lifelong dream of writing, drawing inspiration from a writing class assignment that became the seed for Blood Will Tell.

In addition to narrating the Audible version of the book, Thomas has presented readings of her work and that of other authors at nonprofit fundraising events and on NPR affiliate broadcasts. Encouraged by reader response, she is considering a sequel to her debut novel.
